“More Cowbell” is a comedy sketch that aired on Saturday Night Live. The sketch was written by regular cast member Will Ferrell and playwright Donnell Campbell and depicts the recording of the song “The Reaper” by Blue Oyster Cult.  In that song, Albert Bouchard — Crispin’s former neighbor — played the cowbell. And, as it happens, Crispin’s Shorts not only feature concert performances, hit songs but also rare footage of Crispin playing cowbell. He seriously commits to the Thonk! as you’ll see in the playlist below.

The SNL sketch stars guest host Christopher Walken, Will Ferrell, Chris Parnell, Chris Kattan , Horatio Sanz, and Jimmy Fallon, who famously broke character throughout the sketch. “More Cowbell” is considered one of the greatest SNL sketches ever made. Moreover, it became a popular catchphrase meaning “an extra quality that will make something or someone better” that made it into the Cambridge Dictionary.
